European Commission Launched a WTO Case Against Turkey’s Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare Policies

European Commission brought a dispute in the World Trade Organization (WTO) against Turkey’s pharmaceuticals and healthcare policies. European Commission claimed that Turkey is in breach of free market rules with its protectionist policies.

European Commission launched a WTO case against Turkey’s protectionist policies on pharmaceuticals and healthcare.

European Commission, with the press release dated 2 April 2019, announced that it brought a dispute in the World Trade Organization (“WTO”) claiming that Turkey’s policies on pharmaceuticals and healthcare are in breach of WTO’s free market rules. European Commission stated that Turkey is breaching these rules by obliging manufacturing of the products in Turkey and technology transfer for including pharmaceuticals in reimbursement list, as well as prioritizing them for pricing and licensing.
